I think the forewing dark veins and confused mark in the cell are more like F. tritalis.

OK It is probably not N macrogona but this record and 4420329 are not the same as the other Faveria tritalis live specimens posted on this site, ALA etc This live specimen has the shape and pose of a Scopariinae or similar with the wings held flatter + spread, not somewhat rolled. In records like 4421047, which has not yet rolled its wings, still holds its wings more tent-like.
Comparing 4421047 and this record (4420597 & 4420329) that are in similar wear condition and pose - the eyes and palps are different

When I looked at this, the markings made me think of Eudonia cleodoralis but as far as I can see, it doesn't have the outer wing lateral whire stripe. I guess we have to assime both photos are of the same specimen

Thanks for trying to figure this out. I'm, however, not sure what you mean by "both photos". The two sightings on the two consecutive days are of different individuals (the earlier one is more worn) and the two photos in this sighting (4420597) are definitely of the same individual. I am absolutely certain because of the position of the black specs on my wall ;-) as they appear in both photos. I'm also not sure what you mean by "white stripe". Is it not a leg?

Eudonia cleodoralis does look good too and is well verified on http://www.ellura.info/Lepidoptera.html It is a sp to consider with such specimens. Both have white under their 'chin' But BOLD indicates Eudonia like this needs a revision considering DNA results. It's tricky. I'm leaning back to Nechilo macrogona at this stage which is definitely in Canberra area (museum specimens).
