Great photos again Steve. The species is similar to a few others and the genus is not well known, so can't give you a full ID. The photos are good because you get a number of different angles on the ant, which is important for ID. Ideally it would always be good to include a photo from the side, one from directly above and one of the head (face on) but I know this is very difficult with a moving target! Cheers, Jon

I should also note that this ant is very similar to another found at Mulligan's Flat, which I have IDed as being similar to Podomyrma libra, a species with very few recorded specimens, all from WA.

Thanks for the information Jon, very interesting. I will keep the different angles in mind for the future. As you say some ants are easier to photograph than others. It seems like sometimes if I persevere long enough trying to photograph a single ant it will eventually slow down, perhaps they either tire out or realize they aren’t in danger.
