Single ant. I’m not sure if the strange colouration is normal or some sort of pathology. It seemed to behave normally.

Thanks for the ID Jon. I’m not surprised I struggled to find a match for it! I had another look today and found some more on the same tree, so it looks like they have moved in.

The blotchy colour on these ants is normal for this species and there are a few other Camponotus which also can have quite variable colour.
