I'm confident this is not Rytidosperma pallidum, which is has a branched seedhead.

No Toni, Rytidosperma are difficult.

This is what Rytidosperma pallidum looks like when the seedheads are dry:
Rytidosperma pallidum (Red-anther Wallaby Grass)
But otherwise your description fits. The 1st photo suits Rytidosperma pallidum, but the 2nd one doesn't.
