I’ve been going round in circles trying to ID this moth. It has a damaged wing. I thought it may be a Noctuid, but it was quite large at least 30mm in length
The moth looks like one wing has not properly formed at emergence from the pupa and has hardened in a crumpled, distorted form. Most likely P. ochrosma- a dot in the forewing is just visible I think in the fifth photo, Judging by the uniform brown colour and distinctive texture of the forewing I thought at first it may be P. atralba (Black and White Crest Moth) which is known to occur from western Victoria, South Australia and inland NSW, so if that ID was correct it would be occuring at the eastern extremity of its known range. If so, the hindwing colour would be uniform white in strong contrast to the forewing. Did you get a glimpse of the hindwing?
