User's notes

This one has thrown me, quite a spectacular little thing. no more than 3mm long. thinking about it and investigating it would not surprise me that this is a juvernile Maratus peacock spider, which one I have no idea

Not a Maratus David thought part of subfamily Euophyrinae which also contains genera like Jotus and Saitis, as well as Maratus and Lycidas. The one you have here is common in drier areas of the ACT, and widespread west of here..

Still a lot of undescribed Salticids out there David and very few taxonomists. Remains nameless/undescribed as far as I know but I don't have the contacts I use to within those circles. Dr Barry Richardson at CSIRO was developing a salticid key a few years ago, not sure how far he got?

OK, in the absence of science (I wonder how much this is a 'priority' for the modern CSIRO) let us in the meantime call it the Striped Capuchin Jumping Spider, it does need a common name.

Call it what you want David for the past ten years I've simply referred to them as 'Tigers' re their stripes...
