User's notes

Leucocoprinus birnbaumii is only yellow cap-and-gills on CNM but this is on wood and looks different. Mt Painter Reserve Wildflower Triangle near dam.

You're right to rule out Leucocoprinus. This sighting immediately reminded me of a small, yellowish Pluteus that I collected some years ago. In Pluteus the gills are free and, while I cannot see the gills well enough on these photos, I will go with Pluteus.
