Unfortunately I found this antlion dead when I was coiling up the garden hose. I suspect that the hose nozzle dragged it from the garden when I was pulling it along. It may have had a gritty sack associated with it, because something like that was nearby. (Sorry, this is from last year, I am catching up with some photos I have.)

It would normally be concealed at the bottom of a conical pit in bare ground where it traps ants.

Hi Roger, Yes, that is what I suspect and I think dragging the hose nozzle across the ground probably dug it up. That said, I had not noticed any antlion pits in that area, but I certainly have had antlion adults around the yard. Cheers,
