I have just noticed on the sighting information it states the photo was taken yesterday at 11pm, the exif on my photo shows yesterday at 10am ( correct info ). A glitch in the system?
My Painted Buttonquail sighting has the same issue but my exif shown the sightings 3 minutes apart so i have checked my clock settings and found my macro camera was running 3 minutes fast so the actual time of the sighting was 9:57am
Hi Rawshorty, you are right about the genus, but this is the other species of Papyrius found in the region, which is currently an unnamed, undescribed species. I think this is the first time we have had a set of photos good enough to be sure it is this species - it seems to generally be larger and darker than P. nitidus, but, critically, in your photos you can just make out the coarse hairs on the head and abdomen (gaster) which are not found on P. nitidus. I can't get into the taxonomy section of CNM at the moment, but will add this undescribed species to the taxonomy when I can. Cheers, Jon
Hi, I have added two sightings from this site of this species, see 4376695 and 4376700, for added info on this species. Thanks Jon and Shorty, sure is interesting :)
