Looked for it 28/12/2021 but couldn't find (bad searcher? inaccurate GPS? Something happened to it?). Didn't want to go tromping around too much looking for it off the path.

Don't know, Avery, could be inaccurate GPS. Looked at what else we saw that day - walked up the BMR and then crossed over to come down the little track north of the gully. I do remember there were not many devils there. I had previously got excited on 11 Dec 2020 when I saw lots around at Eryngium ovinum (Blue Devil)

Was it right by the trail (presumably the one just west of the fence separating the reserve from fire trail road and the bmx tracks) or a ways off it? I'm interested in monitoring colonies that can be gotten to without treading on other plants. (But such locations make them vulnerable to people who pull them up because they think they are introduced weeds.)

Not sure how close this one was to the track but the one at Eryngium ovinum (Blue Devil) was photographed from the little track a lot lower down.

I've found that latter one, and spotted it this year (but not blue when I looked at it).

And today I've just found this one ... or, rather, my wife did, after I probably walked past it in a blued-up state at least once and probably twice.

(This isn't just obsession - I think it's worth track of how individuals and small groups are doing as the years go by).

Hooray! it is still there. Thanks to your wife... maybe there is something about the angle of approach or better developed blueness makes it visible now.
