The exact date when Bladder Cicadas arrived in Canberra is unclear but in the suburb of Hughes there is a large community which seemed to begin about 13 years ago. Over a hundred hatched on ash trees in about 2009 and seemed to have spread well beyond Hughes into other Woden suburbs. This year is the most there's ever been, probably due to the wet autumn, winter and spring. Currawongs have had a treat (John Dobson 2020).
I forgot to say that all the photos were taken by John Dobson, apologies. Also that Photos 1 and 2 were of the same bladder cicada, great photos, John!
