Hi Libby, there is a lot of Chilean Needle Grass in the Griffith area, eg along Captain Cook Cres.

Thanks Michael Not quite the ID i was hoping for! It was very tall and sparse, but good to know and i;ll get out there and dig it up!

"very tall and sparse"? Chilean Needle Grass is usually not so tall. It might be Austrostipa bigeniculata. When you go back, check one or more of the seeds. Chilean Needle Grass seeds have a little ring around them. Look at the photos at:- Psychrophila introloba
