Ants with large abdomens some were burrowing (presumably nest building)

looks similar to a suspected Camponotus spp. sighting on Canberra Nature Map. Apologies for the poor quality image (they were a very fast ant)

Sorry for the slow reply - yes, I agree it is a Camponotus queen. I can't be certain which species, but suspect it could be Camponotus intrepidus. Cheers, Jon
