Pair of Blue tongue lizards - either Blotched or eastern found in bottom of the backyard. Is the browner coloured one the male? Earlier observation noted it sitting on the other.
These are Eastern blue tongue lizards, Blotched blue tongues have more irregular patterning on there backs. :). They also look a little different morphologically, eastern blue tongues are a little slimmer typically.
Thanks. I realised, after I posted the sighting and had another look at the photo that they are the Eastern!!! Sorry about that. Now, is it possible from this photo to say the lighter/browner coloured one is the male?
As far as I know the only way to do it properly is to look at the seminal plugs or hemipenes (reproductive organs). Sometimes behaviour can be used, so I would suggest maybe the one on top is the male....... it’s by no way definitive though. :)
