Tiny cup nest less than 7cm across. I appreciate that the species probably cannot be identified from this photo. There are thornbill, grey fantail and redbrow finch nests in this area, but I don't know what this one is. Possibly a wren, as they are always around here?

You are probably right about it being impossible to get it down to a species level.
Thornbills, Fairy-wrens and Red-browed Finches have domed nests. The Grey Fantail nest has a 'tail' hanging from the bottom of the nest.
It might be an Eastern Spinebill or a Silvereye nest.
