I have never seen a bug like this before, i had no idea what it was. Only approximately 3mm.

I've never seen any either except in books... "The Waterbug Book" John Gooderham & Edward Tsyrlin 2002 p151 "... the ability to suddenly jump on their prey... their forelegs are sythe-like with widened femora for grasping and holding prey. Adults have wings but seldom fly".

Thats interesting. This was"nt in water though, it was under a small piece of burnt wood and came out when disturbed. Not too far from the wet gully that runs parallel to Belconnen way. Does that fit the expected lifestyle of Nerthra?
