Hmm... 2 species which are similar: Acacia mearnsii and Acacia parramattensis. Both occur on Mt Majura. I think it is A parramattensis because of the fairly wide-spaced pinnae (first-order leaflets); however, I would need to check the glands along the leaf stem (at the lower surface & visible with magnifying glass; in Ap one gland per pair of pinnae sometimes one little gland in between; in Am glands are more numerous, irregularly spaced of irregular size and hairy.

thanks for suggestion M.
The colour of the foliage is not as I know it from either parent species or hybrid but then colour shown in photos can be misleading...

I have returned to that same tree and taken additional photos to help possibly identify it more accurately. The additional photos are at https://photos.app.goo.gl/6z69wLnnPvUU44P96 This particular species seems to be short lived. There used to be lots of them near the summit of Mount Majura, but almost all of them are now dead.

Many thanks Steve I had a look at the photos; now I'm even less convinced that this the hybrid. Glands at the base of each pair of pinnae with a smaller gland in between fits Ap as described above (L Costermans Native Trees and shrubs of south-eastern Australia 2002, p299). What do you think Michael?
