Has prickly hairs on leaves. I think this is an indicator of E. vulgare rather than E. plantagineum

The diagnostics for Echium vulgare are that none of the leaves are stem
-clasping and that the flowers have four stamens longer than the flower tube and one stamen shorter than the tube. The hairs on the leaves are, indeed, coarser than those of plantagineum. From the angle you have taken the photo, I cannot see the diagnostics.

Having chipped out many thousands of both species of Echium, I'm happy to confirm this as vulgare
