Photo 2 is a good illustration of a curious habit of C. sieberi, growing in clumps out in the open in grassy areas. I've seen it in numbers of places, including the lower southern slopes of Black Mountain. Jim Croft reported what he called Tree Fern Savannah in New Guinea. We might call this Cheilanthes Savannah.
