Pam - Thanks. They stayed looking the same for about 10 days. I took another photo yesterday and have included it in case it helps with identification. I don't have any views about what it is but CNM does not give an "I don't know" option in this case. Jacky
I just love these little fungi as they shrivel back into their woody substrate when conditions are unfavourable. As they do this they loose that bright golden yellow look and become a dull reddish brown. The exciting thing is when there is sufficient moisture they rehydrate to give you yet another wonderful display. If you know where they are you can sometime soak them in water and see them partially revive. Or when conditions are good you can amaze your friends by knowing where there is a fungus you can impress them with!!!
