Most records for this species on the ALA are from southern Queensland or northern coastal NSW , however D. Hobern has posted a record from Aranda. I think the markings are a good match for P. mucids, although there are other similar possibilities. Bold Systems 4 shows only records from Queensland as does LBH.

None of the specimens I have seen of P. baryptera, P. mucida and P. philostaura have the dark straightish bar across the forewing at 1/3 like this specimen.

I think this photo best matches Palimmeces leucomitra. It is a variable species and I can see the various pattern elements of this photo in different P. leucomitra specimens, although I can't find an identical match. P. leucomitra is much lighter in background colour than the other species mentioned above, and is the only one with a white head. It is widespread on the southern tablelands, including Canberra, and on the higher ranges. P. mucida is generally more northern, and P. philostaura more coast and nearby ranges.

I find the white head of this well-marked specimen persuasive against either Philobota spp, but I cannot see a good match for Palimmeces leucomitra online (i.e no C-shaped markings) amongst the few specimens visible on Bold Systems 4. Admittedly P. mucida is less likely (the single ACT specimen doesn;t have a white head), although several examples among the ALA postings from northern NSW and Queensland do have quite white heads.
