I was looking at this sighting and think the ant is actually M. simillima, due to the straight mandibles and few teeth (See https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/File:Myrmecia_simillima_casent0902787_h_1_high.jpg). M. pyriformis has mandibles narrowed near the clypeus and many, often smaller teeth (See https://www.antwiki.org/wiki/File:Myrmecia_pyriformis_casent0902797_h_1_high.jpg). Both ants are common in the region and have similar colouration.
