What is the current thinking about naming our Grey Fantail Rhipidura fuliginosa or Rhipidura albiscara to distinguish it from the NZ species?

ebird which I use is R. albiscara. CNM uses what COG uses which is based of Birdlife Australia. I don't know how often they update. It probably doesn't really matter what we use and it can be changed at any point if need be.

Thanks for that Ryu, iNaturalist also wants to use R. albiscara but more importantly, are they the same or different species?

I have changed the taxonomy to suit the most current views by the majority of sources I found. (Grey Fantail was treated as R. albiscapa, whereas the similar New Zealand Fantail was named as R. fuliginosa). I believe that this is the most current and correct thinking however the topic is quite controversial (some believe they are the same species, some believe they are separate, etc). I included R. fuliginosa as a synonym.

Luke.

Thanks Luke, that seems to be the best approach, John
