Ive noticed that the gastropods are not classified to lower than class. Is that because the relevant diagnostic features are not presented, or the lack of a taxonomic expert in this area?
Thanks for the query. We were getting the occasional worm or mollusc posted, so we decided to add them as a category instead of rejecting the sightings. We do lack a taxonomic expert in this area and would be very pleased if we could find one.
Can only identify this to family level - Camaenidae. It is in an area that has never been sampled for land snails. A clear close up image of the shell surface sculpture would be helpful. It appears to have fine pustulations over the surface - is that correct ?
Thanks all, gets more interesting all the time. I will try to get another specimen and photograph it in more detail. What would be the most useful thing for me to photograph to aid ID?
danswell : That would be a great idea. Need to see a clear picture of the shell surface microsculpture. Possibility it could be an immature Galadistes molong. That species has been found on the Mount Fairy limestones in the past.
