Several pairs of mating Sand Wasps were sighted on the road adjacent to ANBG's Red Centre. In this sequence the female has landed on the right of the first image. The male lands nearby before taking off and then approaches the female from the rear and hovers above her. Mating then occurs in the second image. The male then hovers above the female and lands. The female then flies off and lands a bit further away (fourth image) before the same male follows the female and the same mating sequence occurs again. This was repeated several times before both wasps left the area. This mating sequence appeared to be same for the other Sand Wasps sighted in this area.
