Hi Alison, this ant could be M. forficata, but I can't see the mandibles quite well enough to be sure. M. forficata, M. simillima and M. pyriformis can all look a pretty similar, so they are hard to rule out, but you may have got a better view when you saw the ant? Cheers, Jon
