A caterpillar neatly severed the tree trunk or nearby branches leaving a qyite flat surface that appeared to have been sawn. But the larvae of which insect?

I suspect it was a yellow tailed cockatoo that severed the branch searching for a cossid moth.

Yellow-tailed black cockatoos are busily cutting down eucalypts in Isaacs/Mugga to get insect larvae. I wish they would stick to pine cones.
