There were at least 6 of the larger flying ants and they seemed to being attacked by the smaller ants that were in their 1000's. I could not up my shutter speed as the ISO was already too high so not very good pics.
Hi rawshorty, the large winged ants in the photos are queen ants leaving the nest in search of male flying ants. The smaller ants are the normal worker ants, almost certainly swarming around them to offer protection rather than attacking them. Cheers, Jon
