There is a Catoblemma larva in this image. The large blob underneath the stem. It covers itself with the remains of the scale tests. See page 209 my book.
Hi Roger Please have a look at this sighting of mine, which no-one has been able to ID: Mataeomera sp. (genus) (A Scale Moth) on 17 Dec 2016 Is this a Catoblemma larva?
Correct. The taxonomy of Catoblemma and Mataeomera is confusing as they appear to be congeneric, I will check with Ted. The cases of the Catoblemma/Mataeomera feeding on the brown E. coriaceus are reddish whereas those feeding on the white E. confusus are whitish.
I looked up Catoblemma on butterflyhouse and found the following: http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/acon/mesotaenia.html Catoblemma and Mataeomera seem to be synonyms.
