This is only the second record of this pest species in Australia. .On 30 November 2018, it was recorded on poplar trees surrounding a commercial vineyard in Derwent Valley, TAS. P. populeum is not an Emergency Plant Pest species, because though it is likely to cause some damage to Populus spp. the likelihood of significant economic harm is considered low.
