How tall was the plant? From the photos it looks very stunted if it is either of these species.

Betty sorry yes, it was only small, foreground plant probably about 40 cm, background plant maybe over 50 cm but more sparse. I was very uncertain about it.

On second thoughts, the leaf length is such that it could be Cassinia aculeata, whose leaves are to 5.5 cm long. The photos do not show the leaf midribs, which are obvious in Cassinia longifolia.
