Major weed of coastal NSW, only a few previous records in the ACT. Climate change and "urban heat" may mean that this weed will be able to become more widespread in the ACT

Silke can you check that there is only one vine established, and if possible remove by cutting stems at base and dabbing with roundup, and pull vine off tree and bag all vine parts. It doesn't look like it developed any "potatoes" on the vine, but if there are they all need to be collected and bagged and taken to landfill (not green waste). Let me know if you are unable to undertake control and I'll arrange something else. Thanks for reporting this

Hi Michael, I went there today to remove the vine and found it's a bit beyond my capabilities. It seems that someone dumped a heap of topsoil at the base of these two eucalypts and it must have been full of vine tubers. I stuffed most of the vine itself into two bags but I think it needs the removal of all the tubers in that mound of soil. Would it be possible to arrange that?? I've left the bags leaning against the trees so it's more obvious where exactly it is. But then, you've also got the GPS data to go by.

Thanks Silke I will get something done, but may take a few weeks Cheers Michael

Hi Silke - much much contaminated soil is there? Wheelbarrow load or a ute load? Just need to work out what gear I need to clean it up.

A 4WD ute load of madeira vine tubers and soil was removed this afternoon. More will be removed tomorrwow. Madeira vine often has very deep tubers so we can expect regrowth - this will be best sprayed with Starane Advanced next spring/summer. The site has been added to the ArcGIS On-line 2013-15 TREATED WEEDS web map - so it will be on the radar for follow-up control.
