Acacia siculiformis, Dagger Wattle. The flattened asymmetrical curved phyllodes are diagnostic.

This has been identified twice before as A. ulicifolia. The glands are only a mm or so from the base as shown in Acacias of South East Australia by Terry Tame. A. siculiformis has small gland 'near the centre of the phyllode'. I have always used the taper of the phyllode (widest at the gland) to determine A. ulicifolia. Do we have to check all of the identifications on CNM and reinstate A. ulicifolia as uncommon or rare?

After some due consideration, I will concede this to be A. ulicifolia. My problem was that I was looking at this without a sense of scale. Notes accompanying photos would benefit by a statement such as this: “length of phyllodes is ...”

Length of phyllodes to 15mm. I will have to put a ruler in my backpack. Betty Wood also makes the same comment about reporting scale. I think the curved phyllodes near the end of the branchlets are due to disease, possibly viral infection, killing off A. ulicifolia in this area.
