Thanks Michael there is a number of blue banded bees is it possible to tell them apart or which we have. Or is the difference significant for a casual observer. Peter

The two species that seem to be common in Canberra are A. chlorocyanea and A. asserta. They can be distinguished, but only if you have a good view of the rear end or can see blue colour on the legs. Only chlorocyanea has the latter. The best place to see differences between the rear ends is to compare figures 25 and 28 in https://zookeys.pensoft.net/article/11177/download/pdf/. Ignore differences in colour, only the hair pattern is significant.
