The leaf bases of Echium vulgare are wedge shaped and four stamens stick out well beyond the petals. In plantagineum the leaf bases are heart shaped to stem-clasping and two stanens stick out well beyond the petals. Luckily one flower at the bottom of photo 2 shows the stamens.
