Large shrub or small tree, about 3 metres high............ near the Molonglo River just upstream from Coppin’s Crossing.

I thought the rhachis was a bit short for Acacia floribunda but there is a similar picture on Plantnet. Have you considered A. dawsonii?

A. dawsonii has the flowers in circular balls. In this one the flowers are in a cylindrical shape.

Coppins Crossing was a popular picnic spot in the 1960s and 1970s and I suspect that this wattle was planted at that time as part of landscaping.

Richard Milner this is one to watch in case it becomes weedy - probably worth removing.

There were only 2 or 3 plants, very close together.
