Cassytha pubescens has stems 0.5-1.5 mm diameter. Cassytha melantha, which also occurs in the ACT, has stems 1-4 mm wide. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the fruit.

That does not really help. Immature stems of melantha are hairy also.
