The male came up from the water and stood watching me. I thought he was looking for food until I realised there was a nesting female and I decided to leave. Only then did the male fend me off as I backed up with his beak firmly against my camera lens. I was thankful for the long lens. Second photo taken from a safer distance.
Is this on the island itself? It tends to be a mound of reeds in the water so this is rather unusual. How unusual I'm not sure, but possibly worth investigating.
