These are the first records of an undescribed species for the Canberra area. Bob Mesibov says Solaenodolichopus is a dry and wet tropical and subtropical Australian genus, with a few New South Wales species, but not from cool, dry, elevated places like the ACT. See comments below.

User's notes

On the east side of the Murrumbidgee River, north of Pine Island.

ID by Bob Mesibov at BowerBird. There is a long story about this one, which I will tell later when I have time. See:

After submitting these photos to BowerBird I received an email from Ken Walker with a note from Dr Bob Mesibov who is a millepede expert. Bob asked me to collect a live specimen of a mature male for him to examine, and send it to him in Tasmania for identification. With luck I was able to do this. Later I was able to find another specimen of a female.
Bob identified the specimens as an undescribed species millipede, Solaenodolichopus sp. They were the first records of the genus from the Canberra area.
Later on Bob did a writeup in the BowerBird newsletter (BowerBird Bugle, edition 40, pages 34 to 37) about what he considered to be an amazing find.
