While the wing markings of this specimen are consistent with A. pyracoma (usually recognised as a species with a type locality and distribution in Queensland), they are also consistent with A aperta, a species with a southern i.e, Victorian distribution (see Moths of Victoria, vol.2 updated pages (3) for A. aperta. Nevertheless the wing markings between and within species are highly variable within the Amata g. (see G. Cocking's comment for sighting 3376698) and the taxonomy is acknowledged as being uncertain. Identification therefore reverts to Amata sp. (g).
