I did not recognise this without yellow flowers or dying orange petals so I went and checked my nearest patch http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3374880.

Hi. I confirmed the Oenothera stricta subsp. stricta suggestion, then I changed my mind and reversed it. I remembered a plant I had seen before but not recorded. I think this is the same plant, see:

PS - note that my sighting is also near the Murrumbidgee River.

Looks the same as http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3374897. Not Oenothera stricta.

Take it into the botanic gardens?

Hi Mike.
Are you going out there soon?
If not I can go out to my spot and get a specimen in a week or so.
   2 Apr 2017
Mike, I have collected a specimen for ANBG, no need for you to do so.

Should have got back to you Michael. I have a specimen too but maybe the aphids have got to it - I noticed some small beasts in one of my photos.
