Considering the dire situation in relation to breeding of this species in the ACT, it is good to see two birds together. Hopefully this was two adults and the photo captures what was the beginning of a courtship ritual. Any other details roymcd from the sighting that you can share?
Thanks Matthew. Two birds observed hunting (without success) on Mt Davidson/Red Hill at dusk for 20-30min. Occasional sparing behaviour, as depicted in the photo. The bird at the top of the photo trying to approach the 2nd individual. The bird at the top of the photo has nice clean tail feathers so I interpreted that as a potential youngster, begging for food from the adult (but I could be wrong....).
Both birds flew directly back 'as the crow flies' to Mt Ainslie when they had finished.
The bird at the top of the photo has a notable dark spot on the left wing which might assist in identifying individuals.
An individual bird viewed and photographed on Red Hill/Mt Davidson in the past few weeks. I'll put up more pics soon. Kind regards, Roy.
