User's notes
Clumps of algal filaments in a mostly a still backwash area at the side of the river. Images taken with 10X, 40X & 60X objectives. Cell widths ranged between 14-34 µm, cell lengths were 20-46 µm.

Stephen Skinner of the NSW Herbarium said "a diatom, Melosira varians; you can see the variable girdle bands on each cell, and the bead chromoplasts."
