The ACT Census of vascular plants doesn't list subsp. coriaceum and PlantNet, see link below, lists: Ophioglossum lusitanicum L. Synonyms: Ophioglossum lusitanicum subsp. coriaceum (A.Cunn.) Clausen APNI* Ophioglossum coriaceum A.Cunn. APNI* I wonder whether to correct, ie get rid of "subsp. coriaceum" Waltraud
The subsp. coriaceum dates back to Max Gray's time in the late 1970s (as in a list he gave me in 1978). Perhaps I'm cynical, but some botanists, perennially short of field work funding, work from pressed specimens, and seem to over indulge in taxonomical activities. Numbers of fern species have been renamed over the years (e.g., Culcita dubia) and I wonder how useful this is. But I'm not a botanist and astrophysics has its own taxonomical problems!
