Probably Hypolepis species, likely H. punctata, but to be certain it's necessary to see the spores and the stipes (stalks) (pale or reddish?) And there's an outside possibility it's Diplazium australe but that's much less likely

Mike are you likely to go back and get another photo of this one?

My bet is that it's H. punctata. I expect the sporangia to be circular. If in a chevron pattern, then D.australe.

Michael M, I doubt that I would be able to find it. It would have been inundated with floodwaters twice since then. I'm not likely to go back.

Let's make the ID certain, then. It's the sort of location I'd expect to find it, and I'm 90% sure of the ID. If correct, it has a spreading rhizome and new fronds will appear very close by, so we can correct the ID if necessary.

It's now called Hypolepis glandulifera. Changed some time since 1980! I attempted to add the species. See http://www.cpbr.gov.au/fern/prh_taxa.html
