A new patch of bracken fern that I never knew existed in a dried up gully on the West facing side of the mountain just up from North Watson.

I'm just realising Waltraud that this is the first location for bracken fern that I know of on the mountain. Do you know any other spots?

Aaron that is about the site where I found Bracken fern (before CNM); Isobel Crawford confirmed my Id. I'm not aware of any other site.

I was puzzled when I found it (during rabbit mapping) I searched carefully in the surround, but it seems just this isolated spot.

Yeah it's a really weird little patch just kind of on it's own and then impossible to spot anywhere else. I'm kinda happy about this because I thought the only other spot around here was the quarry at Mt Ainslie. I feel like going up there and turning it into a little fernery and installing sprinklers to keep it all moist so they multiply!

There is (or used to be) some bracken growing on the lower SW slopes of Black Mountain. It tends to grow where the soil is deeper.
