User's notes

This record needs to be treated with care. The reddish markings along tail would indicate it is a Nobbi. Nobbis are known along Murrumbidgee River in Canberra region. This animal is some distance from the Murrumbidgee. GeoffR

Red flush on tail area is typical of nobbi and never seen on muricatus.

Also interestingly, this guy was really tame/friendly and let me get quite close, I'd say to within about 50cm from him, before he started to move off. He was really quite calm about the whole photo thing.

The other identifying feature is the pink colour inside the mouth. A muricatus is bright yellow. Good thing to check if the lizard can be held.

This record should be treated with care. As JM says, Jacky Dragon never has reddish brown marking. Nobbi are known from Murrumbidgee River in Canberra region. This seems to be somewhat away from the Murrumbidgee. Geoff

This is Amphibolurus muricatus, they have an entirely different shape to Diporiphora nobbi, and that colouration on the tail base is not tending towards the colour of a D. nobbi.

With a second look at the reddish tail colour, it is more like a background general colouring rather than the lateral reddish flush that you would expect on nobbi. I have been suspicious of this individual anyway and would be happy to call it muricatus if there is a consensus.
