This is a common, worldwide species. It is variable in colour: from very pale brown, through brighter browns or reddish-browns to the blue-grey shades that dominate here. Always with those concentric bands of colour. The fungus often appears in clusters, as here, but sometimes with only a few brackets. There are other Trametes species in the ACT, not all of them with concentric colour bands and there are concentrically-banded, bracket-like fungi that are not in the genus Trametes. In the ACT a commonly seen genus with concentric bands is Stereum. The undersides of Trametes species have small pores, often visible to the naked eye but sometimes you'll need to use a handlens or a magnifying glass to be sure. The undersides of Stereum species lack pores and are smooth, save for the occasional wrinkle or uneven lower surface, once again use a hand lens or magnifying glass to be sure.
