This is an interesting one Steve. The closest I have seen this plant to Canberra is along roadsides near Jindabyne, and it appears to be a plant that may be spread by cars. I gather it is also used in local gardens. Given that it naturally occurs in our wider region - is it one that we consider as a weed or one that is responding to climate change? Doesn't seem to have bad weedy properties of smothering other native plants but probably worth chatting to Keith McDougall about, as I think he has done some research on this plant

It naturally occurs on the south coast of NSW eg on the roadside on the way to Wadbilliga National Park from Cobargo. The Snowy Mountains people regard it as a weed and have a weed abatement policy about it.

The recorded plants of Ammobium alatum have been removed, any further sightings should be reported so that infestations can be dealt with before this plant becomes a serious weed
