Any reason in particular for suggesting subsp. novaguineensis? Generally plants from this area are called subsp betonicifolia. I can't find a good key for the two of them

Thanks. This was the second fungus species in this location that was suggested to be a species we have not recorded on CNM - I assume possible accidental import when the pines were planted. Not worth investigating further, as this particular plantation is currently being harvested.

Hohenbuehelia is plausible and is what I'd probably call it, tentatively, as I collected it - but I'd certainly want to look at it microscopically to be sure of an ID.

Has been suggested as a Hohenbeuhelia sp.

Given its appearance on a pine stump, Phaeolous schweinitzii is a very plausible ID. However, based just on macroscopic features, the genus Inonotus is also a possibility.
